Dimensions vs. file size
Smaller pixel dimensions generally mean a smaller file, since there's less image data to encode — but the exact result still depends on the format and content. If you need a specific target file size rather than dimensions, pairing a resize with the compressor often gets there more reliably.
Avoiding distortion
Aspect ratio lock is on by default so width and height scale together proportionally. Unlock it only when you deliberately want a different ratio — for example, cropping isn't the goal, but a non-proportional resize is.

Does resizing keep the aspect ratio?
Yes, by default — lock is on, so changing width recalculates height automatically and vice versa. You can unlock it if you intentionally want custom, non-proportional dimensions.
Will resizing distort my image?
Only if you unlock the aspect ratio and set a width/height combination that doesn't match the original proportions. Keeping the lock on avoids stretching.
Does resizing always make the file smaller?
Making dimensions smaller usually reduces file size, but it's not guaranteed for every format and image — the format's own compression behavior still applies to the resized result.
What's the largest size I can resize to?
Up to 8000px per side, a limit that keeps your browser from freezing on an unreasonably large canvas.
