How does compression actually work here?
JPG and WebP support real lossy re-encoding at a chosen quality, so lowering the slider genuinely shrinks the file. Browsers have no lossy mode for PNG, so PNG (and BMP) are re-encoded losslessly instead.
Will the size shown ever be misleading?
No — we always show the real before/after size and percentage. If a file doesn't get smaller, that's what you'll see, not a fabricated saving.
Why would a compressed file be the same size or larger?
Already-optimized images, or lossless formats like PNG, sometimes don't shrink further. This is expected and clearly labeled rather than hidden.
Can I compress many images at once?
Yes — set a preset or per-image quality, then use Compress All and Download All.
